Gratitude & Guilt
Acrylic on Canvas
30" x 24"
May 2017

After losing my partner to a car accident, I expressed the gratitude I felt towards having survived, as well as the grief towards losing him.

I chose to show his absence by leaving empty space where the other person would be during a hug, and showed my guilt by painting the car keys across my eyes. The gratitude I feel is portrayed in the abstract sunlight laying across my skin, and the purple towel and wet hair from a warm shower; both things I love and am grateful to experience again. The background is a muted lilac bush mirroring the purple towel, and the colors were chosen based on the feeling of comfort as well as distress.

This piece is painted on 2 inch gallery wrapped canvas, comes ready to hang with a standard picture hanging wire.
